The deluxe edition of "Ping Pong Over The Abyss" by the Seventy Sevens is a must-have for any fan of alternative rock music. The album features 10 tracks that perfectly capture the band's unique sound and style.

The album opens with the upbeat and catchy "Renaissance Man," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. One of the best rock guitar solos ever is right here on this tune.

So talented that college kids across America touted them as one of the best rock bands of the early 80s, not caring whether they were Christian or not. That hasn't happened since, I don't think.

I had this album in the 80s amongst all my Rez Band albums. This one track is unlike any other track on the album. Heavy, fast and mean.

It's a shame this has only gotten 12,000+ views in all this time (7 years). Great band, great song.

30+ years ago, I was a student at a private Christian college not far from here.  I DJ'd for the college radio station on weekends after dark.  Played this song one night and got told to never do that again.  The old guard just wasn't ready for guitars and drums.Apparently, they weren't ready for Rez Band, Steve Taylor, Undercover or Stryper, either...  :D

I grew up on Christian rock, and this album was a record my parent's played on a turntable. Now I'm sharing this with my kids 30+ years later.
Thanks so much for posting!

you are such a goddamn weirdo. listen, chump. no one is attacking you! you're such a dink. geez. you are not being christ-like at all, dude. i'm not fucking anti-jesus, man. damn. i like some Christian music, do you not realize this? does that mean i have to LOVE ALL OF IT? i bet you like some non-jesus rock music. but i wouldn't assume that means you fucking LOVE ALL OF IT. last night i played the first 77s record on my turntable and it was AWESOME. WHAT is your PROBLEM this is not about YOU.

Didnt they perform a song titled "Into the '80's"?
Or was that another group?

You dont even believe, so how would you know what Jesus would, or would not do? You have no idea, and no you didnt, you came here and immediately began attacking me, I was responding to sooleyiscool, you are the one who jumped in, and I said you should go away if you dont like Christian music, as for wwjd? exactly what I just did, confront you with the truth, you are here because what they sing about feeds you spiritually, even if you refuse to see it.

Not at all, first thing you atheists whine about on your music videos or whatever is how you wish the religious folk would leave you alone, well, here is an idea, dont go where we are, then you wont have to be bothered. And no you didnt "just want to listen to it" or you wouldnt have made a comment, face it. You are like all the other atheists, attention hungry pre-teens, now go away

I happen to like this band. And really, really like this album. And they're not remotely the only "Christian band" I like or have ever liked. Malignus Youth (pretty much one of the greatest bands ever), Daniel Amos, Pedro the Lion, Slick Shoes... all bands I have a great affection for, but very, very little in common with, shall we say, theologically.

My visit here has nothing to do with lashing out, nor whatever your version of truth is. It's good fucking music. I wanted to listen to it.

Well, I played in a couple Christian bands (my dark secret. LOL!) and the ONLY subject matter allowed was Jesus. I got out when I wanted to start writing about something else and not have to answer to some wannabe "rock" minister trying to make sure we weren't in the flesh..gets old. Also, the complaint that you only hear the same "3 songs" in secular music means you listen to shitty song writers...elevate your taste in trolls, man.

I would disagree with nariiscryer concerning the three messages communicated by ALL non-Christian rock bands, but in general, that seems to be all that most of them can create songs about. It's a bit of a reflection on the shallowness and immaturity of musicians in general. But there are always the exceptions like U2, Bob Dylan, etc. Metallica and Disturbed and other heavy bands have alot of thought-provoking lyrics that aren't about violence...like King Nothing and Hero of the Day (Metallica).
milovsantana

You're insane, any music that isnt from a Christian band is about one of three things, sex, drugs, or violence. Dont get me wrong, I like plenty of secular bands, but it gets old hearing the same three songs no matter the genera. That being said, you are the ones who came here, to a Christian bands video to comment, so YOU sought out this music, either to just lash out like a child (as most atheists do), or to hear some truth. Either way, you are uninvited guests, so you should behave better

Um, so the way the music industry works is that your record label has full licensing rights to all of your songs, so many times who a bands music is given too has nothing to do with the band, and everything to do with the label.
